Menstruation should never disrupt anyone's day, limit opportunities or cause panic. Of those who menstruate, 86% have had an unexpected period in public without the necessary supplies. 79% have sometimes manufactured these supplies themselves from toilet paper because nothing else was available. This resulted in feelings of panic and embarrassment. Source: Free The Tampons
Scotland leads the way
In 2022, Scotland became the first country with legislation to make tampons and pads provided free of charge. Menstrual products are available in pharmacies, among other places, as well as through tampon dispensers in community centers and schools. The Scottish government’s goal is to combat period poverty, and it is hoped that other countries will follow.
Which other countries will follow?
Will free tampon dispensing become the norm in other countries as well? Several (European) countries are running pilots with free dispensing, such as Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. In other countries, such as the Netherlands, a legislative proposal has been introduced to make the free provision of menstrual products mandatory. With the CWS tampon dispenser, it is already possible to do your own part.
