Fire safety training is essential in any work environment. Regardless of the industry or company size, fires can occur unpredictably and cause immense damage.
Regular fire safety training makes employees aware of possible fire hazards, teaches the correct behaviour in an emergency and thus promotes quick and orderly action. A well-informed team can help to detect fires at an early stage, contain them and, in the best case, prevent them.
Specifications for fire safety training
The Occupational Health and Safety Act, the DGUV (German Social Accident Insurance) and the Workplace Ordinance prescribe fire protection training for companies. Employers are generally obliged to inform their employees about fire risks, protective measures, escape routes and how to use fire extinguishers.
In concrete terms, the employer must offer the following training for employees:
Fire safety instructions
1x per year for all employees
Within the framework of fire safety instruction, basic fire safety aspects are taught, awareness of fire hazards is raised and the use of fire extinguishers is trained.
Fire safety assistant training (plus regular refresher training).
At least 5 % of the staff
Fire protection assistants are trained more intensively to take initial fire-fighting measures in an emergency and to coordinate the evacuation of the building. In addition, they are trained to prevent fires in the company from the outset.
Optional: Additional fire extinguishing exercises
Additional practical exercises on the FireTrainer help to internalise the use of the fire extinguisher and are particularly useful in companies with a high fire risk several times a year.
Important: Fire training must be repeated regularly to ensure effectiveness and safety.
